keeping the flame alive

Music at Large is not without mentors and guides. Some of the artists and samples from their work are featured here and will be commented on in the Cultural Work blog. I hope that will serve a few purposes. One is to share with you what has motivated my own work and is at the core of what I try to represent. Another is to remind myself of my own struggle to assimilate what I have learned from others. Another is to remind all of us that there is a common thread with which we weave bright moments.

heaven’s bells
—for albert ayler

from the monad to the trinity
from the triad to infinity
organic, sustainable,
unprocessed, aboriginal
sound
his heart’s loud murmurring
squelching the haters
unsqueaking the hinges
of the doors to a new perception

a man possesed
unchaining himself
and us
in the process of becoming
untempered and tempered
at the same time
hard and flowing
at the same time

choose to be part of the healing force
: turn a riff into an anthem
turn a call into a response
turn a note into a phrase
turn a phrase into a sound
turn a sound into a cry
  turn a cry into a riff :
